Aardevo started in 2019 as a joint venture between KWS SAAT , a global player in seed breeding, and J.R. Simplot Company , one of the largest potato processors in the world. In Aardevo, we fully focus on developing diploid hybrid potato varieties. With a growing international team, we build on a program that has been under development since 2012. With our hybrid breeding technology, we aim to drastically accelerate the development of new potato varieties. From our head office in Nagele, located one hour north of Amsterdam, and our location in Boise, Idaho in the United States, we are working on a new future for potato breeding and cultivation. What do we offer... 

We are looking for a motivated intern to support our diploid hybrid breeding program. The internship will focus on our exciting work to discover and identify sources of male sterility to develop a hybridization system for the production of true potato seed (TPS). Hybridization systems in potato currently do not exist and very little is known about male sterility in potato in comparison to other crops due to the clonal propagation of classical potato varieties. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about hybrid breeding and to potentially shape modern potato breeding.

Furthermore, you join our team members to get an insight into the other breeding and research activities at our station. This internship is a great opportunity to learn about an innovative approach to potato breeding and to develop your skills in practical breeding and the analysis of genetic data.

The internship is designed to take 5 to 6 months and should cover the months June, July, August and September 2021. We offer a fair salary. We offer you to live in our guest house on the breeding station, which is equipped with everything necessary for a longer stay. 

What we are looking for... 

You are an enthusiastic student of crop science or related field, who is keen to learn about breeding and plant genetics, and who likes hands-on work just as data crunching.

Your skills... 

M.Sc. study in plant sciences, plant biotechnology or related field 

Good proficiency in English, Dutch is a plus
