The Marketing and Communications (MarComms) Intern plays a critical role in boosting brand awareness, engaging with CDP’s diverse audience and positioning CDP as a vital resource for grantmakers and donors in their high-impact disaster giving.

Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, this position helps with the day-to-day execution of data-driven, integrated marketing and communications strategies involving print, media and digital towards goals outlined in CDP’s strategic plan for 2020-2023.

This paid role is fast-paced and is perfect for a self-starter who is eager for hands-on learning and skills-building experience in the many aspects of nonprofit marketing and communications for professional growth.

The ideal candidate is a budding MarComms professional who is excited to be part of a high performing team dedicated to quality work and inspired by CDP’s values and impact on communities worldwide.

This internship requires a commitment of 20-25 hours per week. This is a fully remote position with flexible work hours to be agreed on before the internship begins. The internship will begin as soon as possible and could last through January 2022.

Responsibilities:

The MarComms Intern is responsible for:

  • CDP websites and blog: Sourcing photos, updating content and other activities.
  • Social media: Creating social images and multi-media content, drafting and scheduling posts, and monitoring engagement.
  • Webinars: Providing logistical support for pre- and post-webinar activities.
  • Database: Updating CDP’s CRM database and assisting with database management.
  • Media: Creating and maintaining media lists, assist with media research and monitoring mentions.
  • Analytics: Tracking monthly web, social media, media and email metrics.
  • Organization-wide: Participating in team/project meetings, staff activities and other special events.
  • Other tasks: Archiving, writing assignments and others as assigned.
  • Skills/Experience **

    As a member of a small but mighty team, the MarComms Intern is a dynamic, self-motivated individual who is eager to pursue a career in marketing/communications in the nonprofit sector.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design or similar preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years foundational experience in the fields of marketing & communications, philanthropy or nonprofits a plus.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Proficiencies with HTML/CSS, content management, email marketing software, CRMs, social media management tools, Canva, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Google Analytics, and MS Office suite, specifically Word and Excel a plus.
  • Familiarity with AP Style Guide a plus.
  • Willingness to learn a must.
  • Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity and seek guidance when needed.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and a strong sense of personal responsibility for one’s work.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Mission-driven and a strong interest in nonprofits and the humanitarian assistance field.
  • What We Offer

    This is a paid internship at $15 per hour in a fully remote work environment that requires access to a computer and internet connection.

  • Gain vital experience in using tools for digital analytics, CRMs, email marketing and social media management.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the critical role and ways that integrated marketing and communications contribute to a nonprofit’s success.
  • Hone writing, project planning, time management and other executive skills.
  • Understand the connectivity of program impact on fundraising goals.
  • CDP is also open to working with students who are seeking course credits for their internship.
